Chain of Custody; FSC & SFI Certification

responsible forestry

Chain-of-Custody Certification, what it means..
Chain of Custody (CoC) Certifications by the FSC & SFI indicate that we support responsible forestry. Products with this label mean they passed external audits set by these internationally-recognized associations and can document that the envelopes we sell have come from foresters who practice strict stewardship of the air, water, wildlife and indigenous populations from which they harvest.

Why is this important to me and to have this for my Envelopes?

We have done the work in order to offer our customers the use of FSC or SFI logos on their printed materials. Some companies will have this mandated by their customers others will have this seff mandated. Companies should consider the PR value as well when buying the FSC and SFI products.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Forest Stewardship Council

FSC In an effort to define sustain able forestry, a group of loggers, foresters, environmentalists and sociologists joined together in 1993, and became the first General Assembly to form the FSC. Since that time, their principles, criteria and standards for forest management have been applied in over 57 countries.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)

Sustainable Forestry Initiative

SFI With a goal of improving industrial forest practices and reporting their results, the SFI had its genesis in 1994. Constantly evolving since, SFI is a fully independent organization whose focus is ensuring current needs are met without negatively impacting the future regarding forestry practices as they relate to environmental impact.

Soy Inks

soy ink

The secret of using natural oils to make inks was known as early as 2500 B.C., when the Egyptians and Chinese made inks from such things as berries, bark, linseed oil, and soot.

Soy Inks are manufactured from soybeans — a renewable resource — and require less than 1% of the total energy needed to produce petroleum-based inks, which are manufactured from fossil fuels. Soy Inks release 20% less smog-producing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than their traditional counterparts. They are easier to remove from paper, so paper fibers are less damaged during de-inking resulting in brighter recycled paper. From an environmental standpoint, Soy Inks are a practical, viable alternative.
